Mount Kailash is highly respected for the being the abode of Lord Shiva. Every year, hundreds of devotees embark on the faithful journey to this peak for seeking the blessings of the Lord and take a dip in the holy Manasarovar Lake. According to the Shrutis and Smritis Mt. Kailash, The snow jewel crowning the roof of the world, is the most sacred and admired. Kailash has many names, popular also as Mt. Meru, the centre of cosmos -the navel or axis of the Earth, a.k.a. Mt. Sumeru etc. According to the Hindu Mythology, the Lord Shiva resides on the summit of Kailash, meditating continuouslyand ensuring the continuity of three aspects of the universe – creation, preservation and destruction. Thus Shiva represents the Trinity – Brahma, Vishnu and Mahadeva. Mt. Kailash is is thus Shiva personified as it is believed that he takes earthly form in Kailash. It is in the centre of the universe.

It is believed that the SUN, the MOON, the STARS an all the higher and lower worlds regularly circumambulates this centre - Kailash.Unlike other mountains of the world, Kailash has a distinct shape with features that are peculiar and pious both outwardly and internally. Kailash rises like a symmetrical domed rock temple covered with ice and snow and hence, projects the shape of the"Lingam". It is said that Gyanganj (Siddha Bhumi), the ultimate secret home ofthe immortals, is situated in the region beyond Kailash. It is no wonder then that the holier than the holiest Kailash, which is the metaphysical representation of Lord Shiva, is located near the land of Gyanganj, which is Mount Kailash.
